THE LOCAL TIPS FROM 6 TO 12 NOVEMBER

Get ready for this week and prepare your most comfortable shoes, we have 3 cultural activities to discover Mexico City:

Mayas, the language of beauty. Crossed looks

The exhibition, organized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), combines times, styles and functions to offer a vision of the art of this ancient culture. After three years of touring through different museums of the world, the exhibit returns to Mexico with a new assembly where 333 pieces are found, whose representations are centered on a predominant element in the Mayan visual arts: the body.

In their profuse artistic manifestations, the Mayans revealed multiple physical details of the individuals that shaped their society. Activities and ranges of its members are revealed through the faces, the constitution of bodies, including deformities and pathologies, which for Spaniards -in cases such as strabismus and cephalic modeling practiced in children, or dental filing- represented acts wild and incomprehensible.

Mayas, the language of beauty. Crossed looks gathers architectural elements, sumptuary and utilitarian objects elaborated in a wide diversity of materials and techniques; they come from 45 archeological sites of Campeche, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatan.

Where? At the National Museum of Anthropology (Museo Nacional de Antropologia). See map.

When? From Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Yves Klein

Yves Klein is the first retrospective in Latin America of the pioneering artist of action art and the immaterial practices of contemporary art. The exhibition takes a tour, through more than 75 works of art and a wide selection of documents -cards, drawings, photographs and films-, for the variety of facets that it developed throughout its short, but intense and prolific career (1954-1962).

The exhibition articulates, from a chronological development, three of the main problems present in his work: the monochrome, the materiality of the flesh and the art as an immaterial field. The radical and definitive agenda of Klein is developed through her works, the actions that compose them and the various manifestos and conferences that she wrote and imparted throughout her career. The exhibition seeks to introduce to a broad public the work of one of the main references of twentieth century art. Perhaps one of the first contemporary artists who sought to integrate art and life in a unified adventure.

Where? At University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC). See map.

When? Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
